TRIBUNLOMBOK.COM – At the southern tip of Lombok lies a beach that offers a vibe unlike any other coastline in Indonesia. Known officially as Tangsi Beach, this natural wonder is now more famously called "Pink Beach Lombok" by travelers. The unique reddish hue of its sand has made it one of the most iconic destinations in West Nusa Tenggara.

Located in Sekaroh Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok, the beach’s position on the southern coast gives it a raw, peaceful atmosphere. Although it’s quite far from the city, the journey itself is part of the adventure.

It takes about two and a half hours from Mataram, or roughly 90 minutes from Lombok International Airport. Road conditions have improved significantly, making it accessible to both cars and motorbikes. Along the way, visitors pass through the Sekaroh Forest, where lush trees and cool breezes offer a refreshing prelude to the ocean view.

There are two ways to reach Pink Beach

First, by land. The overland journey from Mataram to Pink Beach (Sekaroh, East Lombok) covers about 85–90 km, taking around 2 to 3 hours by car or motorcycle. The main route takes you through the Lombok International Airport bypass, towards Praya, then on to Keruak. From there, you'll turn onto Jalan TGH. Moh. Mutawalli until you reach the Sekaroh coastal forest area.

While the roads from Mataram to Keruak are in good condition, the final 4–5 kilometers can be a bit tricky. You’ll encounter some damaged and potholed sections, despite previous repairs. This land route offers its own adventure as you navigate winding roads and pass through protected forest areas. However, once you arrive, the long journey is fully rewarded by the breathtaking natural scenery.

Second, by sea. This boat route is a popular alternative with two options. You can rent a private boat for around IDR 800,000 to 1,000,000 for a round trip. Alternatively, you can take a public boat for just IDR 30,000 to 40,000 per way. If you choose the public boat, head to Tanjung Luar Port. The sea crossing takes about 30 minutes, covering a distance of roughly 66 km.

The best part of taking the sea route is the chance to explore the stunning coastal views around Pink Beach. The gentle sway of the waves also adds a unique sensation for those who don’t often travel by boat.

Salsha, a visitor from Mataram, shared her experience reaching the spot. She opted for the overland route rather than taking a boat. "It took about two to three hours. I went by land, so I didn't need to use a ferry or boat," Salsha said.

However, she noted that driving there at night can be a bit intimidating due to the lack of infrastructure. "It’s a little creepy at night because, if I remember correctly, there’s very little street lighting. The road is flanked by plantations and forest on both sides," she added.

Why is it Pink?

The beach’s famous name isn't just marketing; the color is entirely natural. The pink tint comes from white sand mixed with tiny fragments of red coral (organ pipe coral) washed ashore by the waves. When the sunlight hits the shore, the reflection makes the sand glow with a stunning pink hue, creating a truly photogenic landscape.

The beauty of Tangsi Beach goes beyond the sand. The water is crystal clear with a turquoise tint, and the waves are relatively calm, making it a perfect spot for swimming or snorkelling. Beneath the surface, vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish await divers. The beach is also surrounded by rolling hills. If you climb to the top, you’re rewarded with a panoramic view of the pink shoreline meeting the deep blue sea.

Facilities and Accommodations Despite its fame, Salsha believes the local facilities still have room for improvement. "In terms of facilities, I think things could be managed better. Pink Beach is quite a famous spot, so people naturally have high expectations when they visit," she remarked.

For travelers looking to stay overnight, options are still limited. Wulan, a local resident from Penyambak, Pandan Wangi Village, explained that there are no hotels located directly on the beach itself. "There’s no accommodation right on Pink Beach. However, there is a place nearby called Jeeva Beloam Beach Camp," Wulan explained.

Located on Jalan Pantai Beloam in Tanjung Ringgit, this camp is the go-to choice for tourists who want to stay close to the area. Having a place to stay nearby allows visitors to explore Pink Beach and the surrounding cliffs without rushing back to the city.

As an icon of East Lombok, Tangsi Beach remains a must-visit. Its unique natural beauty and tranquil environment make it a true "hidden pearl." To keep it that way, visitors are encouraged to practice sustainable tourism and keep the area clean so that future generations can still enjoy the magic of Lombok’s Pink Beach.
